The Stress and Burden of CaregivingA project is being conducted jointly by the Family and Community Research Unit and the ARU for the Government Department of Families, Housing, Communities Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA). It seeks to inform the design and delivery of Government support for caregivers through evidence based research regarding the mental health and well-being of caregivers. The project includes analyses of two Australian studies, HILDA and PATH studies. The study identified important directions for future policy relevant research and the need to examine caregivers’ needs in the broader context of the range of adversities and stressors that may impact caregivers. It also showed how interventions could benefit from increased focus on efforts to improve the social interactions and social networks of carers.
